The setting for this unique investigation was the truly beautiful and inspiring Gaea
Retreat in Leavenorth County, Kansas,
Gaea Retreat is owned and managed by a tax exempt not-for-profit called Earth Rising, Inc. The mission of Earth
Rising is to provide a recreational retreat center in a natural setting for the purpose of cultural and spiritual
education. They attempt to meet this mission through the achievement of the following goals... |
|
 |
|
| -- |
 |
|
- To encourage the free exchange of ideas, views and experiences.
- To promote greater understanding and respect between groups and
individuals.
- To support ecologically sound practices and land and wildlife conservation
in the belief that the Earth and all life are interrelated and interdependent, and that respect for all life is
a Universal Mandate.
- To provide sanctuary to people who have experienced oppression or
discrimination due to their cultural or spiritual practices.

Gaea is the ancient Greek name for Mother
Earth. Gaea Retreat is a 168 acre property just an hour's drive out of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Formerly
a church camp, it is now a Non-Denominational Retreat for camping, day use, and conferences for individuals and
groups of a wide variety of spiritual and religious beliefs and philosophies.
Gaea includes a 12 acre lake with a sand swimming area. There are many areas for tent camping, sports, and other
outdoor activities. |

Buildings include a large open pavilion with stage and folding chairs, an air-conditioned
meeting hall, a dining hall and kitchen, and nine cabins. Flush facilities and heated showers are available. The
cabins are equipped with bunk beds, and one cabin, for special health needs, is air-conditioned.
Gardens and secluded areas provide quiet places for meditation or simple relaxation
There is plenty of wooded area to explore and hiking and biking trails are maintained. It is an absolutely amazing
place...and sadly very few of our investigators had ever been there before. |

There are these wonderful magic places hidden away at Gaea...places with names like
the Pixie Sticks, the Fairy Gate, Hearn's Hollow, Venus Sanctuary, Elysium, Davawood, Blood Trail, and Memorial
Grove.
Where else will you find a stone alter surrounded by a magical circle of stones on the shore of a crisp clean lake?
Where else will you find a gate to the fairy world, where you can leave sweets and shiny trinkets to please (or
possibly appease) the mysterious fairies that frequent the nearby woods? See the Fairy Gate section of this investigation
for more details. |

Much of the information for this page came from the Gaea Retreat webpage
and the Friends
of Gaea Yahoo Group. We were very impressed with Gaea Retreat and
appreciative for the fact they let us attend the Mabon Ritual. There was nothing left to do except dedicate a
section of our investigation report to them.
If you need to contact the camp by phone, you can call 913-796-2141 or send them an e-mail. But you
really should check out their website for yourself. |

Its difficult to imagine the Mabon Ritual we attended taking place anywhere else
except Gaea Retreat! Having been there once, I believe we all look forward to a chance to return again someday...
