I think limb-cutters and trimmers would be very helpful. There are some bushes out of control out there that need to be trimmed or cut out altogether. Many of them are "volunteers" and not supposed to be there!

And one thing they are really hoping for, is for us to pick up and pile the fallen limbs. Fallen limbs make it very hard to mow once spring gets here. So we'll be moving those.

Sounds great to hear everyone talking about this and making plans for it!

A QUICK FAVOR: If you are reading this, could you send a short e-mail to your friends and family here in Kansas City. Just send it to everyone (or a lot of folks) in your e-mail address book. And tell them something like:

Quote:
Hey...we're going to Elmwood Cemetery at Noon on March 8th. We're going to do some clean up, explore the cemetery a bit, and tour the beautiful old stone chapel at the center of the Cemetery. The Cemetery and the Chapel are an important part of Kansas City History...why don't you come out and help? It will be fun...

Bring limbcutters, rakes, and work gloves if you have them. If you don't, then just bring yourself! Elmwood is at 4900 E Truman Rd in Kansas City, MO. Go here for details:

http://ghostvigil.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1142&forum=32

I hope to see you there!

(your name)

Many of these Day Trips sort of promote themselves...and the number of people who come doesn't really matter. But the more folks that come to this, the more work we can do at Elmwood...and really the more fun it will be. Please hit up your friends and family!

I've been sending out messages, and posting about this on other message boards. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Mark

I'll put this up over at the local Star Wars group (Heart of the Alliance) I'm a part of. Can't promise we'll get any takers on it, but you never know.
Here's the link to the post I put up on that site:

Sierra, sorry you can't make it! Maybe next time...

Jamie (Darth), thanks for posting that over at the Star Wars forum. You never know...maybe no one will come from that attempt...but maybe some additional peoplew will come. The only sure way to fail is not to try.

The snow is melting out there right now. I checked the forcast...and from Noon to 4 PM it should be between 32 and 39 degrees. And the chance of percipitation is slim. So we're going to be there regardless of weather.

If the weather is worse that predicted, then we'll work inside at the Chapel or something like that. No matter what, we'll be at Elmwood. Don't let the threat of weather scare you off!

I just spoke again with John Weilert...the manager out at Elmwood. They had big tree trucks come in last week and clean up dead trees, etc...so he's very excited that we are coming out to help clean up. He said it will put them in a perfect position for their first spring-mowing.

The cemetery office will be open, for the use of the bathroom and to warm up if anyone gets cold. And they will be opening the Chapel for us to tour and look at. If someone really doesn't want to work outside, they could sweep and dust in the Chapel!

No worries Alex, I pretty sure we will do this again, I've talked to Mark about having a cookout and cleanup/open investigation in one night!

The place is so awesome!

It really is one of those places that is worth going out of your way to see in person. I have seen some stunning pictures of the place, and its hard to believe, but even in the last days of the chill winter, with patches of snow on the ground, it is Stately. There were still some slightly green patches of grass and a few tiny wildflowers around to remind us that the promise of spring is not far away.

The graceful scultpures and intricately crafted memorials are captivating all by theirselves and I think I will definitely be going back to see it when it is lush and green!
