On February 2nd at Noon we'll meet at the Nelson Art Gallery. Now, if you picture the Nelson Art Gallery as just a bunch of boring paintings and such...you would be wrong! There's tons of Egyptian history...Indian history...Chinese history...big beautiful statues, exotic temple guardians, tribal armor, beautiful scrolls, and all sorts of things you can't see anywhere else in Kansas City. My kids were really amazed by the place the last time we went. Follow this link to see the photos from our visit there awhile ago:

While it does not cost anything to go into the Nelson, a donation is recommended. So give what you can...but if you can't...you can't.

We talked about going to Elmwood in February, but with the unpredictable weather conditions...I decided to hold that until March...just to be safe.

So meet us inside the northern entrance to the Nelson Art Gallery at Noon on February 2nd! We'll see you there...

WOW..........Haven't been here since I was a teen.
Got a feeling, we'll be overwhelmed!
Good thing for digital camera's, 35 mm could get real expensive in here......love it!! Thanks Mark!

I was sorry I didn't get to say goodbye to you yesterday, Ted. Dustin said you had some exploring to do. It was good to see you, though! I included many of your photos in the big pile of photos from the Steamboat Arabia Day Trip...

I agree. The Nelson Art Gallery is one of those places where you can't take enough photos. Thank goodness for digital!

Sounds good to us. I think the last time I went was during a school trip. Maybe junior high?

I updated the calendar

Thanks for updating the Calendar, Tara. I really love that you are keeping it up-to-date!

For those reading this that aren't Ghost Vigil members...the calendar isn't available to you...because it includes future investigations, and stuff we can't let anyone know about.

In the future, we'll look for a way to make some portions of the calendar available for non-members...calendars are a useful thing for everyone...

I was looking at some exhibits that are going to be going on at the Nelson. There is a VERY interesting one that will be going on while we are there. The downside you ask? It costs money.

$8 for adult admission. I will post more later but for those of you who do not want to wait here is a link to this exhibit.

Rising Dragon; Ancient Treasures from China.

It has three catergories:

Intro
The Perfect Dragon
Equipped for the Afterworld
Chinese Lacquer

This is an exhibit that is public for the first time. I will post mroe tomorrow and we can discuss whether we want to try to for this or just go to the donation only portion. especially since I was the one complaining about money. :)

Hmmm...that is a good question. We could go through the main portions of the Museum first, and hit the Chinese exhibition last...in case anyone wants to opt out of the Chinese exhibition for money or interest reasons.

I looked, and children under 12 are free. So its $8 for adults and students 13-19 (with ID) are only $5. So for me, it would only be $8 to go into the exhibit...a lot cheaper that the Steamboat Arabia...you know?

In the Chinese exhibition, did you see the Incense Box close up? It has a layering effect. Looks really cool.

The armored knight and horse that Mark pictured, is going to get alot of quality time with my camera! Mercy!

I love the faces. The Egyptian faces...the tribal faces...the statues, the idols, and all the various faces. They are so cool to look at and photograph...and its like you are looking into the face of the person who created, carved, or made the face. You are seeing what they saw as they made that face.

Does that make sense? LOL. Even mildly?

About how long will we be there? I usually work Sat's, but depending on how long this will be, I might be able to get some time.
Yea, I know I haven't been around on the site much (better job hunting and all that), but I really am working on it.
