These Ghost Vigil rules are meant to keep Ghost Vigil Investigations running smoothly and set expectations for the conduct of our members. They were last updated on November 7th, 2007.
Prior to investigating a location, a Ghost Vigil representative will obtain written permission from the owner or trustee of the property. This downloadable form is our basic Investigation Permission Form.
The privacy of property owners, trustees, and witnesses is one of our primary concerns. We do not share even the most general information or photos from an investigation unless the property owners, trustees, and/or witnesses sign an Information Release Form. This is that form.
Once the form is signed, Ghost Vigil Investigations is still obligated and committed to not releasing any specific addresses or names, and to only using that information that does not jeopardize the privacy of our property owners and/or witnesses....
This is simply a much higher quality (and much larger file) version of our Investigation Permission Form. This is the one that should be used to print off the copies we take to property owners, trustees, and/or witnesses.

This is a print-quality version of the Investigation Standards document, for use when we are printing out handouts for new members or sending our standards out with an Investigation Proposal.
The Standards outlined in this document are necessary to ensure the safety of all Ghost Vigil Investigators and that their findings are of the highest quality. At all times safety and collecting untainted credible evidence should be our first priorities. Mistakes can always happen during an investigation, but these Standards are designed to reduce the frequency and seriousness of those errors.
One of the greatest potential tools was given to us when photography was invented: for if we could photograph the dead under conditions that carefully exclude trickery, we would surely be so much wiser - and the argument for survival would...be stronger.
